Asia Pacific Poker Tour
Created by PokerStars President Jeffrey Haas and Director of Marketing Same Lightman, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour is renowned for being the first poker tour in its specific region. While PokerStars has many various tours dedicated to various regions, such as the European Poker Tour and the Latin America Poker Tour, there has not been a dedicated tour to the Asian Pacific countries until the Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
The Asia Pacific Poker Tour jumps to various countries during its events. Some of these countries include China, South Korea, New Zealand, Philippines, and Australia. While at the various countries, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour stays at recurring cities or districts of that specific area. For instance, while in China, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour has always been welcomed to Macau. While in South Korea, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour stays in Seoul. Sydney, Australia and Manila, in the Philippines, are the last two recurring areas for the Asia Pacific Poker Tour’s setups.
Started in 2007, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour has found itself a large following, being as it was the first Texas Hold Em’ tour to cycle through all of the previously mentioned areas. Many avid players join the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, especially domestic players like Edward Sabat, who won the first place prize at the 2008 Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
Edward Sabat, unlike many Americas-based players, travels uncharacteristically to the various PokerStars foreign events. Some of these events include the Caribbean Poker Tour Adventure and the Latin American Poker Tour. Sabat sets a fine example for how American players should expand their horizons and look into joining and playing in the foreign country based events.
Danny McDonagh is a recurring name when talking about the topic of Australia-based poker tournaments. Aiding PokerStars in setting up the Asia Pacific Poker Tour in Sydney, McDonagh is credited with several interesting positions in the various tours that Sydney has to offer. Some of McDonagh’s positions include tournament director for several televised poker tournaments in Australia, and most currently, McDonagh holds the tournament director position for PokerStars’ Asia Pacific Poker Tour.
While PokerStars holds many sponsors for their various tours, PokerStars.net still holds the helm for the top sponsor for the Asia Pacific Poker Tour. PokerStars.net also sponsors the European Poker Tour and the Latin American Poker Tour. PokerStars.net also currently maintains the largest online card rooms in the business, with over nine million members.
When looking to join the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, look no further than the various PokerStars satellite tournaments that are held throughout both foreign and domestic states and cities. Satellite tours are a gateway for players to move into the various professional Tours themselves, with the top players in Satellite tours usually finding their calling at one of PokerStars’ various tours.
Satellite tournaments typically have small buy-ins and will make offers to the various winning players for them to participate in the more accomplished tours themselves. Luckily, enthusiastic winners will find that upon winning a Satellite tournament, PokerStars will typically set up hotels, transportation, food, and other commodities towards their upcoming players.
An alternative to the satellite tournaments offered by PokerStars is the online, downloadable client they have for free download on their homepage. This gaming client installs their software for online poker play at no expense to one’s self, and while taking up a paltry, insignificant amount of hard drive space, the gaming software nevertheless provides a gateway for the enthusiastic poker player to be invited to the professional poker tours held by PokerStars themselves.
