Apple Has Banned Strip Poker Apps: Michael Burford Responds

Michael Burford is not happy with Apple’s decision to remove two of his company’s products from their App Store. "It sucks," said Burford who learned earlier this week that his company’s apps “Poker vs. Girls” and “Poker vs. Guys” were deleted.

Poker vs. Girls was one of Headlight Software's top apps. It allowed users to play a strip version of Texas Hold’em against bodacious women in skimpy outfits. Its counterpart Poker vs. Guys was never as popular but they both provided the company with a tidy little profit.

Burford told reporters that he was perplexed by Apple’s decision to remove the program. He claims that they never included photo galleries and that the game encouraged players to improve their game by providing them with proper incentive.

Part of the issue may have been the recent dip in sales which had fallen drastically from a few months ago. "While it had fallen off recently, it had consistently been in the top 100 of the Casino games in the App Store and top 50 for much of the time, and its loss will be missed from our little portfolio of apps." said Burford.

For the most part though, Burford seems to have taken a lighted approach to the loss. Yesterday he submitted a new game to the store which makes fun of the censorship aspect of its predecessor’s removal, called "Poker vs. Strong Female Role Models. The game’s description mocks Apple's change in policy saying, “Play poker against smart, career-minded women. A college professor, an author, a doctor, a librarian, a pilot, a musician, a computer programmer, and a mathematician." It then finishes up with a swipe at the site with the line, "Coming soon. Hopefully."

Despite the fact that the apps were taken down Burford’s company shouldn’t be facing any substantial financial troubles. They have about 20 other iPhone apps up at the moment and one of their most recent applications, "Knife Dancing,” is currently ranked number two in the free apps portion of the store.
