The Beauty of Freeroll Tournaments and How to Win
Bookmark/Search this post with:
Freeroll tournaments are a great way to gain experience and build a bankroll for moving up to higher stakes. There are several differences when it comes to playing freerolls because many of the players aren’t afraid to take chances since they aren’t risking any of their money. That is why I decided to write something about this subject. For some, freeroll tournaments are the only way for them to build a bankroll. Making something for nothing is actually possible!
In freerolls, other players are not going to care whether or not they bust because they have nothing to lose. These players will play very aggressively and will not be afraid to call bluffs. This makes the bluffing strategy pretty much ineffective when it comes to these tournaments.
Since bluffing is basically out of the question, players should think about the hands they have and play only premium hands very aggressively. I suggest playing only AA, KK, AK suited and AK off suit in the beginning. When you get a hand like that betting aggressively will hopefully get you in the money. This is the best strategy all the way up to the bubble when trying to steal the blinds becomes useful.
Once real money is on the line, things begin to tighten up a bit since there is now actual risk involved. Since players have begun to care about their strategy a bit more, you can now play a bit more hands if you think that the table has tightened up enough.
There is no doubt that luck has a lot to do with freerolls, but these strategies will help you have more of a chance of making it to the top. Just remember to play a tight aggressive game meaning fold anything that isn’t a premium hand, until you get in the money. After that still play a fairly tight aggressive game and try to steal the blinds around the bubble.
