Canadian Born Iranian is Proud of His Heritage
Last weekend Bahador Ahmadi, a Canadian born Iranian, won a bracelet in the 2009 World Series of poker winning $278,104. Ahmadi made the request of playing the Iranian National Anthem to pay respects to all the Iranians looking for a better future for their country.
After the tournament Ahmadi explained during an interview of how proud he is of his heritage and that he supports change in his native country. Playing the Iranian anthem was his way of enabling poker players and others to better understand the attitudes and ideas held by many Iranians living in Iran and elsewhere.
This story touched my heart. I wasn’t aware of the views of many Iranians and this inspired me to believe that change can happen in Iran. During the sad times of protests and an unstable time for Iran, it is nice to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. More Iranians should enter and win some bracelets in the WSOP next year and help promote this positive attitude for their country!
