Daniel Negreanu Tells Players to Take Off the Shades
Poker pro Daniel Negreanu recently spoke out on what he believes to be a major blow to the integrity of poker. In his latest blog post, the Poker Kid tells poker players to take off the shades, implicating that players hide behind sunglasses so they may cheat.
Negreanu opposition to sunglasses at the poker tables was made present following the decision by PokerStars show, “The Big Game,” to ban sunglasses from their program. As Negreanu explains:
“One thing I love about our show, is that FINALLY there is a rule in place where you can't hide like a chicken behind sunglasses!” writes Negreanu. “I swear every TV producer should ban sunglasses entirely from any televised event. They are so bad for poker on so many levels.”
The four-time WSOP bracelet winner continues by saying: “Poker wouldn’t be on TV if everyone wore hoodies and sunglasses to hide their eyes. If anyone wants to start a petition to ban them in any form of poker whether it’s tournaments, cash games, or televised events I’d do whatever I could to help.”
In his blog, Negreanu was sure to note that some of the best players in the world, like Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius, Doyle Brunson and Phil Ivey never wear sunglasses at the tables.
However, he fell short to explain exactly how cheating took place behind the shades, noting only the following:
“Let's just say that guys like Russ Hamilton would oppose such a ban. I'm not making this up, it's just a fact. Banning sunglasses helps to protect the integrity of the game against cheating. For that reason alone, they should be completely outlawed from poker. No other sport or organization would allow competitors a device that makes it easier for them to get away with cheating.”
Full House B says: I agree with Negreanu, sunglasses do enable cheating at the poker tables. They can be used to hide nervousness from opponents, as well as a tool to cover up collusion in a game. What do you think?
