EPT Villamoura: Sorel Mizzi Among Chip Leaders
The European Poker Tour (EPT) has broken yet another attendance record. Earlier this month, the EPT Tallinn event became the largest live poker event in Estonia’s history and now the PokerStars EPT Villamoura Main Event has officially become the largest Portuguese poker tournament event in that country’s history.
Day 1B of the EPT Villamoura Main Event drew 203 players for a combined first day total of 384 players. The prize pool now stands at €1,862,400 with a top prize of €467,835 (approximately $595,600). A total of 56 players will finish in the money and 221 players will hit the felt for Day 2 of the competition which kicks off later today.
Just a few of the big names who will return to compete in Day 2 include Sorel Mizzi, Leonid Bilokur, Samuel Trickett, and Brandon Cantu.
Of course Day 1B did not lack major eliminations. Such top pros as Daniel Negreanu, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Noah Boeken, Jim “MrBigQueso” Collopy, Davidi Kitai, and Michael Binger, were eliminated during the first days of competition.
Here is a look at the top ten chip counts heading out of Day 1B:
