Linda Johnson Shares Her Most Memorable Happenings of 2010
An interesting article was published on PokerNewsDaily by professional poker player and Poker Hall of Fame nominee, Linda Johnson. She has been an advocate for the game since the early 80s and she took the time to share what she feels are the most memorable happenings of 2010. Here are a few of the good times she shared in the article:
Linda’s proudest poker memory was when she was nominated for the highly coveted Poker Hall of Fame. Although she did not go on to be inducted, she felt very thrilled to be nominated alongside some of the biggest names in the industry including Erick Seidel, Dan Harrington, Tom McEvoy, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Daniel Negreanu, Jennifer Harman, Barry Greenstein and Scotty Nguyen.
Her favorite news story in the poker community was the whole team Mizrachi coverage during the World Series of Poker. Every Mizrachi brother cashed during the event and Michael was featured on virtually every poker news outlet and magazine cover. It was an exciting time for poker.
Linda Johnson recapped her favorite poker vacation during her company’s 12-night Card Player Cruises poker trip to the beautiful Mediterranean where she enjoyed socializing with all the players in the poker room. She especially loved seeing all the “magnificent” European ports where stops included Monte Carlo, Rome, Naples, Corfu, Dubrovnik and Barcelona and the weather was great.
A not so good memory of Linda’s was when the UIGEA was not able to be overturned. Linda continues to be angry about this, especially since Washington State went a step further and made it illegal to play poker online. She called it, plain gross!” Full Tilt and Pokerstars both pulled out of the state after the passage of the law and the state’s players did not retaliate enough to reverse the ruling.
Another one of her favorites is the new procedure at the Commerce Casino which penalizes poker players for being away for too long at the table. The new rule, which may have been refined since Linda wrote about her memories of 2010, is very straight to the point. Players who miss too many rounds in $20-$40 and higher hold’em games have $5 taken from their stacks and put into the pot. Some may not agree with this as a favorite but most will be in agreement with the casino’s decision.
