Online Poker Player Warning: Cake Network Experiencing Security Risk

PokerTableRatings has discovered a security risk in Cake Poker’s online poker software. Similar to the one found on the Cereus network the software allows any player’s account information to be easily stolen by a third party between the player and the network servers. Though there is plenty of reason to be concerned about the current hole in security thankfully there are many steps you can take to protect yourself.

The first and most important step is to avoid using a wireless network connection whenever possible. The easiest and most effective way for a hacker to get at your information is for them to join or compromise the network that is accessing Cake Poker’s network servers. Using an unsecured wireless network makes this task easy. So use a direct wired connection or if that is impossible, a WPA2 encrypted wireless network which is the next best thing. Whatever you do though, don’t risk compromising your hole cards and bankrolls on unknown or public network.

The most obvious way to avoid the risks associated with the hole in security though is to simply change your password and avoid using the software unless you are absolutely sure about the security of your network connection. The issue should be resolved shortly but until it is, it’s better to play it safe then be sorry.

The Cake Poker network remains one of the best in the world. They offer a great variety of games and an excellent rewards system. Hopefully, the security issues will be resolved quickly and players will be able to get back to playing the games they know and love without further complications.
