Phil Laak Fails to Capture Another World Poker Open Win
Phil Laak failed to defend his title at the PartyPoker World Open VI on Wednesday. The world record holder made a good run at the annual event but he came up just short this time around bowing out in fifth place in Heat #5.
Laak went all-in pre-flop with AS 10S and was called by Ben Johnson who held QH-10H. Laak had the advantage but when the flop revealed a queen, and Laak failed to produce a pair ace or a straight it was all over. He exited the Palm Beach Casino in London and lost any chance of maintaining his title.
In Heat #3, it was PokerStars pro John Duthie who came out on top. He edged out M.B. Mahmood with a pair of aces after Mahmood drew dead on the river.
Victory Poker pro Andrew “good2cu” Robol bested the competition in Heat #2. He took down UB.com poker pro and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Brandon Cantu in the heads-up round. Cantu went all-in with K-10 against Robol’s A-3. Robol turned a pair and Cantu received no help from the flop.
Seven players will move on to the PartyPoker World Open final table. Six of the spots will be awarded to heat winners and the final spot will be awarded to the winner of the runner-ups turbo event scheduled to wrap up later today.
