Tom durrr Dwan denied first WSOP bracelet: Down $8M in Prop Bets
Tom “durrr” Dwan is undeniably one of the best poker players in the game. Controversially, he has made almost all of his money from online and live cash games, hardly ever playing in tournaments. Until recently that is.
Apparently, the young Full Tilt pro has made a list of WSOP bracelet prop bets with a number of big name pros including Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu, Huck Seed, and Eli Elezra. With millions of dollars and his reputation on the line, Dwan has been eager to win his first WSOP bracelet this summer.
Monday was his first chance to meet his goal, as he squared off with New Zealander Simon Watt in event # 11, $1,500 No Limit Hold’em. Over $600K and a WSOP bracelet was promised to the winner – and for durrr another $5M in prop bets was up for grabs.
Dwan had entered the final table as the chip leader and crowd favorite, but apparently that wasn’t enough to stop 27-year-old software developer, Simon Watt. Watt brought his A-game to the table and in the end he ousted Tom Dwan for the win.
Dwan quickly raced to the exit immediately after his second place finish, which paid $381,885.
Meanwhile, those who bet on Dwan posted their success on Twitter.
Daniel Negreanu tweeted: "Congrats to Tom Dwan! We were all rooting for you... To come second! Wow I escaped. What a sweat that was."
Full House B says: Man I feel bad for Dwan. I wonder if the pressure got to him. What do you think?
