PKR is running a World Cup tournament that is sure to get poker fans excited. Players can represent their country in the new tournament which has players from around the world face off for the pride of their fellow countrymen.
Users can earn their way into the competition one of three ways. From now until June 26th the site will be running a series of $5 GTD tournaments that earn players points. The top four point scorers from each country at the end of these events will be added to the top of their country’s team sheets. Players can also take advantage of Sit & Go’s the player who earns the highest amount of prize money in six and ten-seat Sit &Go’s during the promotional period will be eligible for a seat. Finally players can earn their way in through Heads up Sit & Go’s. The player who earns the highest amount of prize money from the format will also earn themselves a spot on the team.
Only 12 teams will be selected to compete at the finals. 11 teams will be chosen from the nation’s Team scores. Team scores are the total score of the top four players on a nation’s team sheet. These are the players who have earned the most points during the promotional period. The 12th team will consist of different players from around the world whose country’s scores did not qualify them to move on, this team will be referred to as the Rest of the World.
Once the 12 qualifying teams are selected they will be randomly paired up into two groups of six. Each of the six members of each team will then play two six-seat tournaments to earn points for their team. At the end of the first stage of competition the two teams with the most points will move on to the PKR World Cup final. The final two teams will play three heads up matches in a series of randomly drawn games. The team with the most points at the end will be crowned the PKR World Cup champions and their members will be awarded $750 and a signed legends World Cup shirt from Icons.com.
If you don’t get selected to represent your country no worries, the site will also be rolling out a $1,500 minimum GTD free roll tournament for all players from the winning nation who played in a qualifier. This tournament will take place July 17th at 18:30 GMT.
