WSOP Circuit Schedule Announced with Some Major Changes
The preliminary schedule for the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit has been released. The Circuit will feature at least 12 US tour stops and for the first time the WSOP Circuit will venture into international waters. A handful of other events are expected to be announced in the coming months but for the moment players should be able to get an idea of what will be going on in their area.
“We recognized the WSOP Circuit events needed a shot in the arm, and we believe we’ve responded with steroids,” said WSOP Vice President Ty Stewart. “The new model is exactly what the WSOP is all about, giving poker players of all bankrolls the chance to compete for the kind of fame, fortune and respect that comes only with a WSOP bracelet and a national television audience.”
This year’s tour will feature a number of notable changes. For starters there will now be a cumulative rankings system throughout the season. Players will be awarded points for each official WSOP Circuit “Ring” open event they compete in. At the season-ending National Championship tournament those who rank in the top 100 will automatically qualify for the televised event which will feature a $1,000,000 prize pool and award a WSOP gold bracelet.
Four of this season’s events will be WSOP Circuit Championships. These events will feature a $10,000 buy-in and will feature two-hours of national television coverage per stop.
