Successful poker players can control their impulses, they have a knack for psychological warfare, and they know when to hold them and when to fold them, making them excellent candidates for political office. If more politicians had the skills needed to be a professional poker player there is no doubt that they would get a lot more done. While poker and politics usually don’t mix I thought it would be a lot of fun to make a list of the professional poker players we think would make the best politicians.

 It has been confirmed that Texas Hold’em poker fans everywhere will soon have another way to enjoy their free time. One of the leading creators of games, Microsoft, has developed a new game for the Xbox Live Arcade entitled Full House Poker.

Available to play in single mode, heads-up or in live online tournament format, the new poker game is sure to be a big hit. One of these live tournaments is called Microsoft Heat and will feature up to 30 competitors. The other will be a 30 minute tournament called Texas Heat where it will be all about speed.

A whopping $16,000 Aussie Millions Main Event prize is package up for grabs tomorrow, January 8, 2011. The event will be a no limit hold’em super stack tournament and will take place at 22:00 EST. The buy-in is set at $600+$40, which means that the winner will receive nearly $10,000 more than the investment. Not a bad deal indeed!

Although most eyes are glued to the highly anticipated PokerStars Caribbean Adventure set to kick off today in the Bahamas, there is another poker stop that we cannot ignore arriving today as well. So remain calm, we will all get a chance to see who Isildur1 really is and recaps of the events will be on their way to Pokershark as soon as possible but for now, let’s take a peek at what’s going on for the first WSOP circuit event of the New Year.

 An interesting article was published on PokerNewsDaily by professional poker player and Poker Hall of Fame nominee, Linda Johnson. She has been an advocate for the game since the early 80s and she took the time to share what she feels are the most memorable happenings of 2010. The CardPlayer Player of the Year awards winner, Tom Marchese recently sat down with Poker News Daily to discuss the amazing journey that catapulted him to the top of the race. During the battle for one of the most sought after titles in the poker world Marchese made his way to 11 final tables in major live poker tournaments and made an incredible $2 million along the way. He recently signed with Poker Icons and has a bright future ahead of him thanks to his many accomplishments in 2010.

I hope everybody voted this last week. As expected, the Republicans won the House of Representatives and did major damage to the Democrats’ hopes. Harry Reid won his senate seat and I’m not sure how I feel about it. Harry was personally responsible for me getting my gaming license 40 years ago when he was the head of the Gaming Commission so I feel an obligation toward him. On the other hand, except that he is supposedly pro poker, I’m a little disappointed in his past of approving some controversial bills.
