2 Months, $2 Million Poker Show Cancelled

The G4 cable channel has recently made the decision to cancel the network’s poker show, “2 Months, $2 Million.” Plans to air more episodes in a follow up series were originally planned however poor ratings made it a bad idea.

During the summer of last year, four online poker players appeared on the show including Jay “Krantz” Rosenkrantz, Dani Stern, Brian Roberts and Emil Patel to challenge themselves with two months of poker action all with the goal of earning $2 million dollars during that time.

At first, the show was thought to be a great way to pull the majority of viewers in. “There was something there that represented a lifestyle our audience is fascinated with,” said Laura Civiello, Vice President of Development at G4. “Every young guy wishes they could have this lifestyle, so it was very appealing to men ages 18 to 34, which is the majority of our demographic.”

Unfortunately, the poker show failed to attract that audience the network was looking forward to in the beginning so the show was switched to a different time. For a while it aired on Wednesdays instead of Sundays to avoid having to compete with the high rated shows, NFL football games and HBO’s Entourage.

One of the major dilemmas the show faced was the fact that the four poker players failed to meet expectations of making $2 million dollars in just two short months. Instead, they only made a fraction of that $2 million falling $1,324,000 short. The four guys just couldn’t make the money fast enough and by the end of the season, the team had only managed to make $676,000. For most of us “normal people” that is still a ton of money, but evidently it wasn’t enough to keep the show afloat.

Jay “Krantz” Rosenkrantz claims to have gained some incredible insight into what it takes to make a boatload of money playing online poker explaining to viewers that he wasn’t giving up. “I learned a lot doing “2 Months, $2 Million” not least of which was what people really liked about it and what didn’t work,” said Krantz. “Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to let that experience work for us.”

Although the players won’t be returning to the TV, they will take what they have learned to the online poker rooms they have come to love.
