Annie Duke Talks about Daniel Negreanu's Verbal Assault

PokerStars and Annie Duke herself have finally commented on Daniel Negreanu’s recent controversial statements. Earlier this month Negreanu caused quite a stir when he labeled Duke a “fucking cunt” during part of an interview he thought would be off the record. Negreanu’s comments were in regards to Duke’s recent claims to that she is “the best female poker player in the world” and though Duke doesn’t exactly have a glowing reputation, the comments were of course something of a shock to poker fans.

In response to offended viewers PokerStars has surprisingly enough chosen to back Negreanu saying, “Although Daniel Negreanu is a Team PokerStars Pro, he is an entity to himself and as such will always be encouraged to express his views and speak his mind as he would otherwise do so, PokerStars Pro or not.”
As one would image Duke was angered by how PokerStars decided to handle the situation. She fired back at PokerStars with the following open letter:

“I am not offended by Daniel’s opinion. He has a right to disagree with me and dislike me. And I, just like PokerStars, would encourage him to express his views and opinions. This is not about his views. It is about a particular word he chose to express those views. The word “c**t” is not an opinion, it is an abusive epithet, and PokerStars is completely ignoring the use of that term in their response.

“But more distressing is the use of the word encouraged here. So, PokerStars, you are encouraging Daniel to continue to express views in this manner, to conduct these public attacks using offensive slurs and inappropriate language? I am more than dismayed that PokerStars is making a statement here that they encourage this kind of behavior, this kind of language use. According to PokerStars, this kind of behavior enriches our community.”

As the controversy grows so are many players’ opinions. We here at PokerShark would love to hear what are readers have to say about the matter. Please share your opinions by leaving a comment below or better yet write a letter to the editor.
