Another Australian Crowned the Aussie Millions Main Event Champion
The champion of this year’s prestigious tournament from the land down under is one of their own for the second year in a row. Tyron Krost took the Aussie Millions Main Event Title keeping the championship in the tournaments hometown and earning himself a monster sized payday of AUD 2 million.
Per pro Sorel Mizzi looked to take down the title at the final table as he help the chip lead with a massive 40% of the chips in play. Even with all of those chips, Mizzi failed to take down the title.
Annette Obrestad made it to the final table this year, but it seems as though the tournament really wanted an Australian to win as Krost defeated all odds to claim victory over his opponents.
Frederik Jensen, Peter Jetten, Kosta Varoxis, Steve Friedlander and Stephen Shelly were also at the final table battle last week.
Stephen only spent $22 of his own money to get to the main event, but was the first one to be eliminated from the final table. Krosta’s pocket jacks beat Shelly’s pocket sevens and in the end, the online qualifier still went home with a wonderful AUD 125,000 return on his investment.
Annette was the second to go when her short stack proved to be unintimidating when she went all in holding and Ace and Jack off suit. Krost again sealed the fate of another player calling Obrestad’s bet with a pair of sevens. The board gave nothing to help Obrestad and she was out in 7th place.
The next elimination also involved pocket sevens, but the player who held them wasn’t as lucky. For the first time a player other than Krost did the eliminating as Kosta Varoxis held A,K, against Steve Friedlander’s 7s . Varoxis made a pair of Kings with the board and Friedlander was effectively eliminated in 6th place taking home a nice AUD 350,000 chunk of the prize pool.
The next player to say their goodbyes was Peter Jetten and again, it was none other than Krost who sent him packing. Jetten held Kd, 5d against Krost’s pocket 10s. The board failed to produce anything usable for Jetten and he was knocked out of the main event in fifth place.
Kostas Varoxis was the next to go as his A,6 failed to hold up against Frederik Jensen’s pocket 2s taking the tournament from 4 players to 3.
Sorel Mizzi, the one with the gigantic stack to begin with, was eliminated in third place after his chips slowly dwindled. He was not responsible for the elimination of any of the players. You know what they say, eliminate, or be eliminated.
Heads up play began with Jensen and Krost and ended with an unbelievably close hand. Jensen held K,6 and Krost K,9. In the end it was Krost’s higher 9 kicker that won the championship and the AUD 2 million dollar prize.
Krost was wearing a PartyPoker.com shirt.
