Brits Still On Fire at the WSOP with Another Bracelet Awarded to Englishman Richard Ashby
The Brits have continued their winning streak this week at the 2010 World Series of Poker with the win of Full Tilt Pro Richard Ashby from England. This marks the third British native to capture a bracelet at this year’s WSOP. The record breaking win happened at the $1.5K Seven-Card Stud event where Ashby joined his fellow countrymen Praz Bansi and James Dempsey in WSOP bracelet fame.
When speaking to Pokerlistings about the big win, Ashby said, “I’m mostly known for playing online at the fairly high-stakes and I haven’t had much tournament success, so I’m really pleased to win a major.”
Even though the Englishman will be taking home a nice payday of $141,000, he feels that the prestige of winning such a major event is more fulfilling than the money.
Ashby is no stranger to the WSOP. Even though he has cashed a total of nine times and final tabled three events at the Series, the highly coveted bracelet has eluded him until now. And he couldn’t be more grateful to finally go all the way. “It really does validate all the hours I’ve put in coming here every year,” said Ashby.
Having started his career online, he has been involved in some notable high stakes tables including one where his entire $4k bankroll was put on the line. He managed to build it up to $100k but then lost it all the by the end of the week. He has to count his losses and start from the beginning again.
When Pokerlistings questioned him about that time now that he had a WSOP win to his name, he said, “Even though the actual prize money is a lot of money, I’ve experienced winning and losing that amount online in a day. But this means so much more than a big win online.”
Congrats to Ashby and the other Brits who have claimed a bracelet so far this year!
