Daniel Negreanu Has Won the PokerStars Fairways and Felts Poker/Golf Tournament

Daniel Negreanu proved he knows his way around a golf course just as well as he knows his way around a poker table this weekend. The poker icon beat out the competition at the first ever PokerStars Fairway and Felts mixed golf and poker tournament at the Casino Vilamoura on Sunday.

Fairways and Felts was the first event of its kind. It randomly placed contestants on to golf teams where they played as a team deciding whose ball they’d like to play from. The teams that preformed the best in the golf portion of the competition were given bonus chips for the poker portion. Individual players who performed the best were also given bonus chips and special prizes at the end of the competition.

Only fourteen players turned out for the €1,100 buy-in tournament so it’s unlikely the event will make a return next year. Negreanu’s team did fairly well in the golf portion of the tournament earning Negreanu 2,500 additional starting chips. Negreanu may have only earned a modest €8,000 for his win but if the event isn’t picked up he will have the honor of being the only Fairways and Felts World Champion in existence.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see if PokerStars is willing to give the event another chance.
