High Roller Event at WPT London Awards Justin "Boosted J" Smith the Title

Justin “BoostedJ” Smith beat out the competition at the World Poker Tour (WPT) London’s High Rollers event. Only 20 players bought in to the £15,000 event which offered a one in three shot at the money. With so few players, the event offered a miniscule £141,000 for first place but that didn’t stop a number of top pros from turning out at the tables to give it their all.

Just a few of the pros who made an appearance at this year’s contest include last year’s World Series of Poker (WSOP) Player of the Year Jeffrey Lisandro, French poker legend Bruno Fitoussi, former World Champion Huck Seed, and British bad boy Luke “Full Flush” Schwartz.

Schwartz caused quite a scene during the early stages of the game. He tormented his opponents with his aggressive playing style and caused quite a bit of consternation among players. It was not long until he met his match however; sponsored pro Antanas “Tony G” Guoga took advantage of Schwartz bet heavy playing style and knocked him out before the first day of play was through.

Twelve players advanced to Day 2, and with only four eliminations needed to create the final table the action was fierce. It took only two hours for players to reach the final table but the final table itself would prove to be one of the longest in the tour’s history.

It took nearly eight hours for a single elimination to occur but when it did happen four players were eliminated in quick succession. It would be another two hours before Smith and Guoga would make it to heads-up play and another hour before the winner would named.

Smith held a nearly 3-1 chip advantage going into the Heads Up round. Guoga gave it his all doubling up a few times but in the end it was just too much for him to over come.

The final results were:

1st – Justin “BoostedJ” Smith – £141,000
2nd- Antanas “Tony G” Guoga – £84,600
3rd – Freddy Deeb – £56,400

The WPT will now move stateside for the Borgata Poker Open. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
