L.A. Poker Classic Main Event Recap

The final six players of the World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic $10,000 no-limit hold’em championship event duked it out yesterday for their chance at history. The final table players emerged from a substantial playing field of 745 participants but only one of them could walk away with $1,788,001 and the title of WPT L.A. Poker Classic champion.

The final table was set up as follows:

Seat 1: Jean-Claude Moussa— 1,360,000
Seat 2: Gevork Kasabyan— 2,000,000
Seat 3: Tri Huynh— 2,565,000
Seat 4: Raymond Dolan— 3,300,000
Seat 5: Michael Kamran— 680,000
Seat 6: Andras Koroknai— 4,995,000

In the first 35 minutes of play two players Michael Kamran (sixth place finisher with $246,744) and Jean-Claude Moussa (fifth place finisher with $321,840) were quickly taken out of the competition.  Things appeared as though they might progress quickly but it would be three hours before another player would be knocked out of the competition.

Gevork Kasabyan was the next to say goodbye. Both he and Tri Huynh had an ace high on the draw when Huynh raised to 250,000 under the gun. The flop was dealt AD 9C 8C and Kasabyan checked but Huynh decided to bet 300,000 which Kasabyan check-raised to 700,000. Huynh re-raised all in and Kasabyan made the call. Both came up with two pairs but Huynh won with pair ace pair nines to Kasabyan’s pair ace pair seven. Kasabyan was eliminated going home in fourth place with $450,580.

Tri Huynh soon met his maker though in the form of Andras Koroknai. Huynh lost an all in bet to a pair of Kings. He finished in third with $665,136.

It was then down to the final two. Going into the match up Koroknai had a gigantic chip advantage over Raymond Dolan, 13,450,000 to 1,450,000 which he used to his full advantage. In the very first hand of heads-up play Andras Koroknai moved all in preflop from the button and Raymond Dolan made the call. Koroknai pulled the flush and the rest is history.

Dolan walked away in second with $1,002,710 and Koroknai in first with $1,788,001 and the title.

To recap the final table results were as follows:

1: Andras Koroknai — $1,788,001
2: Raymond Dolan — $1,002,710
3: Tri Huynh — $665,136
4: Gevork Kasabyan — $450,576
5: Jean-Claude Moussa — $321,840
6: Michael Kamran — $246,744

Congrats to all the final table finishers and a special congrats to the new champ Koroknai!
