Peter Eastgate’s Auctioned WSOP Bracelet Resurfaces: Owner Wants it to Benefit Charity
In November 2010 Peter Eastgate raised more than $140,000 for charity when he auctioned off his World Series of Poker Main Event bracelet that he received for his 2008 victory. At the time, the public did not know who the winner of the auction for the bracelet was. That is until the team over at PokerNews.com sat down with the winner, William Haughey, for an interview at the Aussie Millions.
They found out that he is the founder and CEO City Refrigeration, a company that has experienced great success, putting it to good use towards many deserving charities over the years. When he heard that the proceeds of Eastegate’s bracelet auction would benefit charity, he immediately placed bids to contribute.
97% of the money raised from the original auction went to UNICEF with 3% taken by MissionFish, the eBay non-profit organization.
Now Haughey has come forward with plans to make more money for charity using the bracelet in some way. He wants to give it back to the poker community in a way that will provide funds for additional charitable efforts. Inspired in part by the One Drop $1 Million buy-in charity event, he would like to raise money for a WSOP supported charity and to help build a cancer hospital in the U.K.
