Plenty of Sexy British Accents Fill the World Series of Poker Tables
The WSOP is enjoying a British invasion. The tournament series has seen a number of UK success stories going around this year and if the Brits have anything to say about it the wins are set to keep coming.
Praz Bansi won his second career WSOP bracelet on Wednesday. The London-based Hit Squad member beat out the competition at the $1.5k No-Limit event. He and fellow Hit Squad member James Akenhead made waves last year when they made it to the final table at the WSOPE Main Event and chances are they are planning to do one better at this year’s WSOP Main Event.
The UK’s Neil Channing became one of three British players to make it to the final-table at yesterday’s $5k Shootout, eventually taking second place for $273,153, just short of his first WSOP bracelet.
"It's not like it's coming from nowhere," Channing said of the British success. "We had a good year last year."
The winner of the $5k Shootout, American Josh Tieman, certainly noticed the British influence at the final table.
"I did notice some accents out there," Tieman said after the win. "I know two or three guys were British. I wasn't really expecting that."
"Praz is an amazing player. We've got a really good stable of players from the UK. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but there are good players. You're going to be seeing more and more of us."
Boeree predicts that this year her country will win just as many if not more bracelets then they did last year. With one bracelet already secured the British still have 40 days of poker action to attempt to break last year’s record and the chances are looking pretty good.
The 2010 WSOP continues now through July 17. Stay tuned for news and updates.
