PokerStars Cancels Chile Event: LAPT Vina del Mar

PokerStars has decided to cancel the Vina del Mar portion of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT). The official announcement was released just days following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Chile last weekend.
The series was scheduled to take place at the Enjoy Vina del Mar Casino and Resort located in of course Vina del Mar. The big city is located less than 200 miles south of where the earthquake struck and the effects of the quake are being cited as the reason for the event’s cancellation.
With much of Chile still in a state of emergency and rescue efforts still underway, it is possible that the event just didn’t seem appropriate.
In the official statement released by PokerStars they had this to say on the matter:
“Everyone at PokerStars.net and the LAPT offers their thoughts and condolences to all of those affected by this tragic natural disaster. The LAPT sincerely apologizes for this cancellation to the players that had planned to attend the festival.”
All players who have qualified or bought-in to the event will be refunded their buy-ins and any out of pocket expenses they might have accrued from the cancellation.
