Senate Plans to Hold Online Poker Hearing In February
According to an article published at PokerNews.com the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs will be discussing the recent Department of Justice stance change on the Wire Act of 1962. The online poker hearing is scheduled for February 9, 2012 at 2:15pm.
The Senate hearing will be the second discussing these matters in less than 90 days time. In mid November a hearing to discuss the future of internet gaming and the effect it could have on tribes was conducted which focused mainly on the testimony of tribes and their representatives. Al D’Amato, Chairman of the Poker Players Alliance was also in attendance and testified before the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.
The PPA’s Vice President of Player Relations, Rich Muny released a statement in an email to members of Tuesday that reads, “These continued hearings are hard evidence of the great work the poker community has been doing to ensure our elected representatives hear from us. I thank everyone for taking the steps necessary to ensure our elected representatives understand that we poker enthusiasts will not back down and will not simply go away!"
A webcast for the hearing will be available here.
