WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Ready for Day 2
Both Day 1 days at the Bay 101 Shooting Star event of the World Poker Tour are now complete and the competition looks pretty fierce, with the total official entrant count at 333.
The $10,000 buy-in main event heads into Day 2 of the No-Limit Hold’em action with a playing field of 126 hopefuls. The always eventful bounty player feature was again a highlight in this year’s event and many of the 50 players with marks on their heads were eliminated with $5,000 going to the player to knock them out. Friday, March 12 will be final table day and the stakes are high with a top prize of $878,500. 36 of the 333 players competing in the tournament will make it in the money.
A woman, Vanna Tea currently holds the chip lead and will begin Day 2 with a total of 143,900 chips. Players that finished in day 1a and 1b as the chip leaders received a $10,000 reward which covers the buy-in costs, giving them the opportunity to play the rest of the tournament risk free. Day 1b chip leader Eugene Katchalov finished the day with 131,5000 chips and will also be freerolling for the rest of the event.
Among those notable participants who didn’t make it this time around for the day 2 action are Joe Sebok, Joe Hachem, David Williams, Erick Lindgren, Annie Duke, Paul Wasicka, Jeff Madsen, Antonio Esfandiari, Hoyt Corkins, Gus Hansen, Gavin Smith, Chris Ferguson, TJ Cloutier, Jennifer Harman, and Bertrand Grospellier. Annie Duke was pumped to finish deep in this competition after her first place win at the NBC National Heads UP Poker Championship just days ago, but it seems as though one win will have to be enough.
Some big names have crept up into the top ten leader board including Greg Mueller with 132,800 chips, Scotty Nguyen with 99,900 and Yevgeniy Timoshenko with 97,600. Here is a look at the Chip Count leaders as of the conclusion of Day 1:

Eugene Katchalov – 131,500
Tim McDermott – 118,100
