David “Chino” Rheem Takes the First Ever Epic Poker League Champion’s Ring
The inaugural Epic Poker League Main Event has been won by poker pro David “Chino” Rheem after battling it out at a final table full of the most talented names in the poker world. It was early on Saturday morning at the Palms Casino Resort when Rheem finally snagged the win. The final table included both Jason Mercier and Erik Seidel, two of the most respected pros on the planet.
Rheem took home $1,000,000 for his defeat against some of the best players in the world including Huck Seed, Gavin Smith and Hasan Habib. During the final stages of the event, it was Erik Seidel and Rheem who went heads-up and neither player wanted to back down. The chip stacks of both players teeter tottered back and forth until finally Rheem took down the final pot after his AsKd beat out Seidel’s AcQd. The board didn’t help out Seidel one bit giving Rheem a flush and the first Epic Poker League Champion’s title.
Commissioner Annie Duke awarded Rheem with the Epic Poker League ring and walked him over to claim his million dollar first place prize.
But it isn’t all fun and games for Rheem. As is turns out, several poker players are owed some serious cash from Rheem including Joseph Cheong and Ben Lamb. It looks like he will have to use some of his winnings to pay back his debts. Lamb came forward on Twitter shortly after Rheem’s win saying that he has been paid back $40k but many others have only been paid back a portion of what they are owed. No one knows for certain exactly how deep the hole is that Rheem has dug.
Epic Poker League coverage will air in fall on CBS and Velocity.
