Dan Harrington

Name: Dan Harrington

Winnings to Date: $6,612,202

Harrington was born December 6th, 1945 in Cambridge Massachusetts. He has always been known for being extremely intelligent and over the years he has shown immense talent for a wide variety of games. He first began playing poker while attending Suffolk Law School. During his college years he is said to have played successfully against many students from Harvard including Paul Allen and Bill Gates. While he did enjoy poker, he was initially more interested in Chess and Backgammon winning the 1971 Massachusetts State Chess Championship and the 1980 World Cup of Backgammon.

Harrington first appeared on the live poker tournament scene in 1986 when he cashed for the first time in the World Series of Poker. The following year he made it to the Main Event final table where he ultimately finished in 6th, and in 1995 he proved that his first deep run was no fluke when he went on to win the Main Event and the $2,500 No Limit Hold'em event. In the early 2000s, he made headlines once again for making back-to-back deep runs in the Main Event finishing 3rd in 2003 and 4th in 2004 in what has been called one of the greatest accomplishments in World Series of Poker history.

In 2007 he became one of the few players to have ever won a WSOP Main Event title and a World Poker Tour title when he took down the WPT Legends of Poker Championship Event.

Harrison is known for his solid and very conservative playing style. Since 2004 he has provided players with game changing advice via five poker strategy books and various other publications.

Harrington is one of the few highly successful poker players to continue a career outside of poker and one of the only major players to abstain from playing online.

In 2010, it was announced that Harrington would be given one of the greatest honors in the poker being inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
