Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel was born November 6, 1959 in New York City. He currently holds eight World Series of Poker bracelets and a World Poker Tour title. Erik played backgammon in tournaments for eight years before eventually trading on the Wall Street stock market. Erik enjoyed playing poker when he wasn’t busy trading stocks. He finally decided to pursue a career in poker and moved to Vegas to take up the game full time.

Erik played in his first World Series of Poker Championship Event in 1988 where he finished second to Johnny Chan. The final hand featuring Erik Seidel and Johnny Chan in the 1988 World Series of Poker was shown in the film “Rounders”. This movie sparked a tremendous growth for poker around the world. In 1999 he went all the way to the final table and finished in fourth place.
 Seven WSOP bracelets later, in 2005, Erik finished in four final tables. Two years later he won yet another bracelet which tied him with Johnny Moss as the fourth most bracelets won for the WSOP. The following year, in 2008, he took the second place prize of $880,000 in the Aussie Millions Main Event. Only a few months later he won another tournament at the World Poker Tour Championship Event, The Foxwoods Poker Classic earning a payday of $993,000. Later that same year, he made it to two final tables at the 2008 WSOP taking fourth and fifth place.
