Upon graduation from high school, he became a student of the California Institute of Technology where he studied electrical engineering. He became serious about playing poker in college and in 1989 he took a leave of absence and never returned.
The easy going and quiet Huckleberry was soon making more money than an engineer could make playing poker. In 1990 he played in his first World Series of Poker placing fourth in the Limit Hold’em and Seven Card Stud events. In 1994, Seed won his first WSOP bracelet and cashed in a total of $240,000 during the event. The following year he didn’t do as well as he had hoped but bounced right back in 1996 when he won the WSOP Main Event and the $1 million dollar first place prize!
Seed is known for making entertaining proposition bets with big name players such as Phil Hellmuth. He wagered $50,000 that he could stand in the ocean for a day but only managed three hours. He played 9 ball with Hellmuth and won $2000 per game totaling 24k. Another time, he bet Phil that he could do a standing back flip within 6 months. Before the time was up he proved to everyone that he could do it. Seed has made other bets as well and has managed to win most of them.
Huckleberry Seed has four WSOP bracelets under his belt and as of 2009, has made over 5 million dollars in live tournament winnings. He also finished in the money three times in the World Poker Tour.
