He eventually settled down in Sacramento California where he has proven to the poker scene to be one of the most talented players around. As the youngest of eight siblings, it has always been important for Tran to shine and his drive to be the best at whatever he does has led him to be extremely successful at the poker table.
Tran is a graduate from California State University with a degree in business management but his passion for poker steered him towards making a career from the game. When Tran was 21, his brother invited him to play a poker game in a local casino. After being extremely thrilled with his success at the game, he became a regular player in the casino and began to make good money. The money was so good, that he thought about quitting school to take up the game full time but managed to stay in college.
After graduating, Tran began playing more and more poker. He mainly participated and won smaller events for the first few years. He began to realize tournaments were his thing. He was a good player but in 2004 he caught a big break after appearing on the televised WPT L.A. Poker Classic. He finished in seventh place and cashed in his then biggest prize of $94,000. 2004 continued to be good to Tran as he made it to the final table of two World Series of Poker events finishing in eighth and seventh place at no-limit hold’em events.
Up until 2008, Tran was considered the best poker player without a bracelet. He cashed at many tournaments always barely missing the bracelet. That all changed at the World Series of Poker when he defeated Danish player Rasmus Nielson heads-up for the $630,000 prize and the gold bracelet. He won another bracelet the following year in the WSOP pot limit Omaha event proving that he only gets better every year.
J.C. Tran is well liked among his friends and his favorite activity is partying with them. He likes to donate to charity with his tournament winnings. He also likes golfing, fishing and listening to music. His favorite music is Hip Hop, R&B and Electronic. He is also single.
