Winnings to Date: $12,813,990Phil Ivey’s poker career started in the same place that he grew up – New Jersey. It was there in Atlantic City that he started to play, and love, the game of poker. Ivey won his first World Series of Poker title at the age of 23 when he beat the legendary Phil Hellmuth and Amarillo Slim in the Pot-Limit Omaha event. In 2002, two years later, he won three more titles at the WSOP. Ivey also won two Bellagio tournaments, one World Poker Open tournament, two Commerce tournaments, and has made his share of World Poker Tour final tables.
2005 was a good year for Ivey, where he had two more WPT final tables, a second place finish at the WSOP Circuit Event at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe and earned his fifth WSOP bracelet in the $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament. After, at the Monte Carlo Millions tournament, Ivey won $1 million for his first place finish. The next day he won an additional $600,000 for his first place finish at the Full Tilt Poker Invitational.
The following year, Phil Ivey was named Player of the Year by All In Magazine, Bluff Magazine and the UK Gaming Awards. Soon after, Ivey placed second in the Omaha Hi/Lo event and third in the $50,000 HORSE event at the 2006 WSOP. In 2007, Ivey reached the final table of the WSOP $5K HORSE event, finishing fourth.
In Feburary of 2008, Ivey won his first WPT Championship, moving him into the top 10 on the all-time tournament money list.
