Winnings to Date: $2,838,238Sammy Farha was born in Beirut Lebanon in 1959 and moved to the United States as a teenager after the Lebanese Civil War began. He attended the University of Kansas in 1977 and graduated with a business administration degree. After college, Farha moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to his brother. A year later Farha discovered poker and won a ton of money, so he took up poker full time and quit his job in 1990.
In 2003, Farha finished second to Chris Moneymaker is the WSOP Main Event. He took home a $1,300,000 second place prize. He almost decided to call it quits in that tournament because he lost a huge pot to Barry Greenstein leaving him crippled and waiting to be eliminated. Greenstein talked him into staying and he wound up winning over a million bucks! A few months later, Farha and Moneymaker were set up by PokerStars in a heads-up game and Farha took that victory. In the 2005 WSOP main event, Farha also made it in the money.
Farha specializes in Omaha poker games, but has been working on some other projects as well. He has written some books, worked on a TV series and a video game. He is also a spokesman for Harrah’s Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
