What is the proper way to play this hand? 1/2 no limit

i was the big blind and raised 17 pre flop i had pocket 10's. I got three callers; the flop 10;9;6 two spades. First to act checks to me I make it 40 i get one call and the first to act reraises 40 + 75. I call and the guy be hind me moves all in for 15 more we both call. The turn is a 2; first to act goes all in for 480, I have 300 left i take a long time and then i fold. He shows pocket 6's and another 2 hits the river, I would have won; where was my mistake? The first to act was playing extremly tight as was I. I know I had the second nutts but I thought with his push he flopped the straight. I did have one card to go, should i have popped it when he put the 75 on top of the 40?
