Successful poker players can control their impulses, they have a knack for psychological warfare, and they know when to hold them and when to fold them, making them excellent candidates for political office. If more politicians had the skills needed to be a professional poker player there is no doubt that they would get a lot more done. While poker and politics usually don’t mix I thought it would be a lot of fun to make a list of the professional poker players we think would make the best politicians.

St. Patrick's Day is on its way and those of Irish heritage are preparing to celebrate across the globe. Whether you’re full blooded Irish or a mix of many nationalities the big day can be a source of excitement and merriment. As people flock to parades and pubs to drink in another year it's easy to forget that the holiday is a true celebration of Ireland itself.

 We're back to finish off our list of the top 20 most successful celebrity poker players. If you thought the first 10 players were big then you haven't seen anything yet. The final 10 features some players who have become so successful on the felt that their former celebrity pales in comparison. A mix of Hollywood types and athletes these players really know how to take out the competition.

With Phil Hellmuth’s recent departure as a Team UB member, it appears that the 11 WSOP champion is already on the market and has since met with officials of Full Tilt Poker. According to his Twitter feed, (which he updates constantly) Hellmuth excitedly reported that he was meeting with Full Tilt at the Las Vegas Wynn Resort and Casino.

“Now meeting w Full Tilt Poker! At SW Steakhouse bar at Wynn… Made my biggest bet of last 2 years on LSU (-2)!” read his January 7 tweet.

The highly sought after poker player achievement which comes with poker fame and respect from the poker industry has now been given to Canadian pro, Daniel Negreanu. After coming in second place for a $1 million prize at the 2011 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, Negreanu once again took the title of top all-time live tournament money winner.

Another poker player has joined the Red Pro ranks at Full Tilt Poker. Canadian pro Peter Jetten announced on Twitter that he has sign a sponsorship deal with the site followed by an official announcement by Full Tilt. “I’m proud to announce I have signed with Full Tilt Poker,” tweeted Jetten before going on to play in the PokerStars Caribbean Main Event.

The CardPlayer Player of the Year awards winner, Tom Marchese recently sat down with Poker News Daily to discuss the amazing journey that catapulted him to the top of the race. During the battle for one of the most sought after titles in the poker world Marchese made his way to 11 final tables in major live poker tournaments and made an incredible $2 million along the way. He recently signed with Poker Icons and has a bright future ahead of him thanks to his many accomplishments in 2010.

Playing at High Stakes tables isn't something to be taken lightly. The higher the stakes, the more likely you are to run into sharks who will chomp away at your bankroll until there is nothing left. While I wouldn't discourage you from taking a shot at the big times, I do think that you should be prepared to face off against some of the best in the business, including many poker pros that get paid to separate the average player from their money. After all, there is a reason why they’re called the nosebleed tables.
